Trying To Bring It All Together

Hello all,

So this blog has had few posts lately.  Partially because we have been busy and partially because we have been a bit discouraged.  It is proving to be near impossible to find someone to install some equipment in our truck.  It seems in Calgary you can't even pay people to do work for you.  Extremely frustrating!

We are playing a bit of a waiting game and making phone calls but it has not been easy.  Some days it even makes us wonder why we started this in the first place.  Our next step is to get our stainless steel backsplash and hood vent installed and it is not proving to be a simple task.

So they sit in our living room and take up space reminding us everyday that we still haven't found somebody to install them.  We trip over them, put stuff on them, and stare at them hoping they will magically get installed properly and we can move on to the next step.  It's tiring and a little defeating.  We are so close but feel so far away from completion.

I know it will get done but right now it is our Achilles Heel holding us back from the finish line.  We may have a few leads right now and are hoping they pan out.  I'll let you know...

For now I will try to focus on the good things in life that make me smile, like my girl wading in water at sunset.
Till next time,

Jennifer

Hello friends,

So.  Jennifer took me on a surprise trip for my 30th birthday to see my favourite theatre play, Les Miserables , in Anaheim, California.  We rented a convertable, drove the coast, went whale and dolphin watching, and got to spend a few needed days alone together.  And yes, I did say, I am now 30!  Not sure how I got here, but it seems that's not an uncommon phenomenon.  Look at me being 30...

When we returned we had been robbed without forced entry.  All of our cash at home, our lap top with all of our business files, pictures from the beginning of this endeavor until now.  My writing and photography.  So much.  Of course, nothing backed up.  Two of my wallets.  My broken phone from the glove compartment of our car.

I won't get into pointing fingers, but we have an idea of who it was.  Pursuing that won't get our things back.  So we took a rather large hit.  That, on top of numerous let downs from people and companies promised to do work for us...have got us quite a bit behind, and more than a little frustrated.

We have decided to go ahead and do much of the finishing work ourselves including stainless steel back drops which we were waiting for an entire month for a un named company to do with numerous excuses every week.  We are not sure if we will be up for Stampede as a result.  But we are gonna work our butts off to try.  This may be a little bit of a lifeless blog.  I really am finding myself bogged down with disappointment of people.  When did it become ok in our society to give out our word with little meaning or intention behind it?  How do people cheat others?  Steal from hard working and generous people?

I have to say I am finding myself with little belief in people and our society.  Very few good people out there.  And I find myself also slipping into a bit of introversion to journey the question, how good of a person am I actually?  Because the laws of attaction are either working very slowly, or are not in my favour.

Ok, I promise I will write again this week and it will be up beat, and I will showcase our awesome exterior of our food truck.  I have to say it is by far the most creative design in Calgary so far.  And we have done it all ourselves!

Have a nice day,

Jenny

When are you Launching?

So it's June 12th already and we are not on the road yet like we thought we would be.  Putting this truck together in theory was a lot easier than in reality.  This month is definitely crunch time!  There is still a whole lot of stuff that needs to get done, but we have a plan and hope it goes smoothly.  So many people have helped us out along the way and we are so grateful to them.  Between most of our large equipment getting delivered in a snowstorm or pouring rain, and trying to get our 2nd kitchen classified as a commercial kitchen we have definitely had some trials.
Nothing good comes easily, right?  There have been some fights and some days where we are so exhausted we can't move at the end.  There has also been a lot of laughter and excitement when you start to see things come to together and people responding to it. We've also had a lot of fun trying out the food trucks that are on the road right now which are run by some great people and gives us a chance to eat some great food.
This is the home stretch and it's definitely the hardest part, luckily we have each other to lean on and our 4 crazy wonderful animals to make us smile when the stress is piling up.

It's Jenny's 30th birthday this week on the 14th and I'm taking her to a mystery location to celebrate.  There will be pictures when we get back!  Hopefully this little mini vacation will give us a needed break and allow us to push hard into that final stage when we get back!  Honestly I can't wait to get this baby launched and be able to share all our hard work with everyone!

Till next time,

Jennifer

Food Truck Friday-Lulu's Local Eatery

I found today's Food Truck Friday on Kickstarter actually.  A St. Louis food truck with a unique idea that needed funding.  Lulu's Local Eatery now drives around with their own herb and veggie garden right on the roof!
Lulu’s is known for working with local farmers wherever possible to provide the highest-quality, freshest ingredients to their customers. employ earth-friendly practices and supply quality products.  Adding a green roof to their truck seems like a perfect fit!

Using a lightweight aluminium structure, the rows of planters on Lulu’s roof garden grow strawberries, rosemary, lavender, mint, mustard greens and other herbs that are used in each of the restaurant’s signature dishes. The garden is fitted with hydroponics and sub-irrigated planters.  every morning they climb up to tend to the gardens, or to harvest the edible goodies for the menu.

Lulu's has a large selection of menu items that are made from scratch using all-natural, organic and local ingredients.  Noodles bowls, pita wraps, quinoa bowls, salads, and sweet potato curly fries comprise their vegatarian menu.  Because they try to maintain the freshest ingredients, all items are on a rotational basis.   Lulu’s specialises in sustainable catering and events as well, customising services to fit your individual catering needs.

I know I'd love to have this truck at my special events. So if you are lucky enough to be in St. Louis take a look at their website and find out where they are going to be because you don't want to miss this fresh menu!

Till next time,

Jennifer

Yellow is the New Pink

We spent all of Sunday painting the truck and I have to say, she looks so good!!  Yes that is right our food truck is female too, what can I say, but girls rock!  We aren't finished yet so I'm not going to show any photos of that (I'm such a tease!) until we have full after pictures too.  What I am going to talk about is a piece of furniture that we refinished a while back.
We got this desk from somebody that was just going to throw it out.  Can you imagine, it's such a beautiful piece but some people just can't see the beauty in the beast.

With a little sanding and a lot of coats of paint we ended up with a gorgeous piece of art!

How fantastic does this look?  I do have to admit that Jenny did most of the painting while I was at work and she did such a great job.  Yellow paint takes a lot of coats to make it look anything but patchy and she worked hard!

Let's see that before and after again.

I love it, it now sits in our office that we hardly use, but we will once everything is organized down there.

Till next time,

Jennifer

It's all Pink and Pancakes!

As Jenny mentioned last time, yes I did get a hair cut!  It's a little different than I am used to but I love it so far.  It's actually wash and go hair now, I  haven't had that since I was a kid, plus it's pink too!  Which was partly for the business and partly because I just think it's fun!

It also goes with our brand new shirts and tank tops that we made.  What we did was take our logo and made it into a stencil, paired it with some text and voila.  A stencil to make any shirt into a cool Jane Bond style!
Grabbed a little black spray paint and made some shirts for our event on Sunday.  Actually made them at 4:30 am that day.....so early I wanted to cry! They turned out great.  Don't you want one?

Back to our last Sunday event which unfortunately was a bit of a bust.  We started the day off really early getting ready for a pancake breakfast for the Mustard Seed cheer station at the Calgary Marathon.  The turn out was much, much, much lower than expected.  200 expected but only 30 attended.  So we have a little bit of pancake batter leftover, Lol, we'll be eating pancakes for a while!
Oh well, you never know what will happen and the rest of the day turned out much better than that.  We hit up the Lilac Festival with some friends in Jane Bond gear, yep we have gear now, and handed out over 1000 business cards.  Then grabbed some food and drinks at Original Joe's to reward ourselves.

Looking forward to getting our truck on the road!  And so thankful to all our friends who have helped us out so far, you guys Rock!  On that note it's time for me to go get ready to paint the truck today, :) Can't wait!

Till next time,

Jennifer

The Girl With The Pink Hair (riding a beater rv)

My old lady got a sick hair cut the other day, and if I didn't know any better I might think she is attempting to be a wee bit edgy, which I am never opposed to!  She didn't get the twinsy side shave I have been invisioning on her, but she did get this!

So ya, I supposed I must match the pink myself in the next bit before we get launched.  So launch date is being pushed back to, well, when it all gets done.  Jennifer and I are both un used to manual work, and though I'm super impressed with all we have accomplished, we do not pace with thebest of them just yet!  But let's do a cap of all the amazing work we have done with our own hands in the past couple weeks....now I know I usually blab a lot, but today I have a plethora of pictures for you!

The back yard lounge and fire pit we designed with palets, blankets and other items....pretty swanky!

Just a gratuitous and gorgeous ocean shot, hope you don't mind....

We refinished an old desk that was gonna go to garbage....it was 80's brown...and now looks like...

Ok we did do lots of work I promise we have stuff to show for not blogging nearly as much!

We hired a plumber to install our hand wash sink in our downstairs prep kitchen.  Cost: $250.

We finally got a door mechanism which opens inside and will attach to the ceiling.  The frame even fashion by us...we are very impressed with ourselves!

Because of the shape of the rv original windows, we ended up with this awkward space to fill.  Jennifer suggested foam which we cut to shape about 4 times before we got the right fit.  Glued and stapled it in place, trimmed the over hang.  Don't punch through that area but nobody but us will ever know!

The whole time being watched by back yard Bonnie on the motorcycle I look really sexy on but have no idea how to ride as yet (it was a break up gift to myself!)....she just loves all the excitement and adventure going on!  Lots more to report about, but I gotta leave some good stuff for Jennifer.  We had our first event this past Sunday read further to hear about how amazing it went! LMAO  Oh, and for the curious minds, we are well within our budget of open a food truck with $15,000.  Costs to date, about $10,000.  It will be a squeeze, but I think we can do it within another $5,000!  We will deifnitely let you know and display all the costs involved when she is ready!
Cheers Mates,

Jenny
