Food Truck Friday-Verts!

When Jenny and I were looking for a vehicle to transform into our Jane Bond-mobile, we looked at many RV’s and a few older (slightly abandoned) food trucks, but we definitely didn’t think to look small!   Apparently we were being close-minded!  Why not a tiny Smart car?  Sounds crazy right?  But that is exactly what these 2 German guys in Austin, Texas did!
Introducing VERTS, they are among the first to bring Döner Kebap, Germany’s most popular fast food, to the United States and then they made it mobile with a Smart car!  With a few modifications such as no passenger seat to allow for a power system, powered by a couple of truck batteries, this Smart car was ready to bring food to the people!  Check out this video on how the smart car functions as a mobile restaurant.
  One of the things I love about this is how easy it would be to find parking in big cities, I’m sure there are a few trucks out there right now that would be envious of the vehicle storage and parking capabilities this offers.  Considering we just moved our RV to the back of our house yesterday (no easy task on a slippery, snow filled, uphill parking spot) this advantage really appeals to me!
 If the truck wasn’t cool enough with their unique concept, their mouthwatering food sounds so tasty I’d love to hop on a plane and head off to Austin right now.  The Döner Kebap they are serving is a German version of the Turkish dish made of roasted meat cooked on a vertical spit. It is also known regionally as gyro, it was brought over to Germany sometime in the 1970s.

 According to their website here is how it works:
 * START: Choose between their signature Doner Kebap bread, a wrap or a salad.
    * FILL: Add to your starter with deliciously tender beef & lamb, chicken or veggie.
    * FINISH: Top it off with fresh veggies and a tasty sauce.
    * ENJOY!
I’ll take 2, please!
They now have 3 Smart car locations driving all over Austin, Texas bringing their amazing and deliciously healthy food to the streets.  If you are in Austin be sure to check out one of the three locations, this is something that shouldn't be missed!

  1. I have also had the bbq chicken, while also delightful, I like the preparing on the prepared chicken better. I have yet to try the grain servings or tacos.
