Today’s Food Truck Friday brings you Del Popolos, an eye-popping, innovative truck in San Francisco! Opening this spring Jon Darsky’s pizza truck is like no other!
Only a heavy-duty truck would be able to support the two-and-a-half-ton, handmade, wood-burning oven from Stefano Ferrara in Naples. According to the website Del Popolo’s is housed in a twenty-foot transatlantic shipping container that he modified into a kitchen. The whole side opens up to expose the interior and show off the incredible oven.
Demolition on the shipping container was done in order to build the doors and a staircase to bring in people at eye level. Considering we just began the demo on our truck, I can only imagine the extent of work that was involved for this.
The menu isn't very large, 2 items to be exact. but they are rustic Neapolitan-inspired pizzas using ingredients sourced from small, generational producers. Your selections are:
Tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt
Fresh mozzarella, ricotta, grana padano, arugula
With fresh ingredients and an oven that is created to maintain heat up to about 800 degrees for the perfect 60-second Neapolitan pizza they sound irresistible!
Hitting the road at the end of April this truck is sure to draw a crowd with its enticing looking pizzas and stunning view. San Francisco is one very lucky city!
